As we wrap up February I wanted to let you in on a little secret… this month’s theme was Authenticity. This post is all about loving on yourself and getting clear on all of the things that make you YOU. Tom Rath, an American Author, said “The key to human development is building on who you already are.”
The greatest act of love you can give to another person is to love them for exactly who they are. It makes sense then that the greatest act of love you can give yourself is to be true to yourself, be truly authentic, and love yourself for exactly who you are. Because there is no one just like you!
It is a daily practice of letting go of who we think we are supposed to be and embracing who we are. This is called being authentic. Being true to yourself.
Brene Brown said, “Our authenticity is the very foundation from which all meaningful change occurs.”
We have to have a clear sense of WHO we are and WHAT we believe and to feel CONFIDENT enough to share it. Knowing what makes you you, and knowing WHAT is important to you and WHY gives you confidence.
AND being 100% true to you, getting rid of the chameleon complex and not comparing yourself to others. You get to be just like your favorite flower, unique and beautiful just the way you are.
Not what other people think you are or what other people think should be important to you, but what you actually feel. I spent a lot of years worrying too much what other people thought and not enough about what I thought of myself. It was this fact alone that kept me from discovering my purpose for as long as I did. It was always there, I just had to get brave enough to admit it.
Below are 5 things that can help you develop the habit of authenticity.
1. Experiencing What Is - being present and focusing on what is actually happening.
2. Being Transparent - not hiding anything back. Speaking your truth and giving up the need to control.
3. Asserting What You Want and Don't Want - Stand up for yourself and give value to your needs.
4. Taking Back Projections - Letting go of assumptions.
5. Sharing Mixed Feelings/Emotions - Talking about your feelings and acknowledging that you can experience mixed emotions over the same event.

This is the key to developing authenticity. Just being you. And letting the positive energy flow.
